Acupuncture

Dr. Jenkins offers this service to our patients on the NHS and privately to patients registered elsewhere. Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed over thousands of years in China, Japan and other Far Eastern countries. It has evolved into a system of medical practice which restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points just below the skin. Many people use acupuncture as a preventative medicine; however the treatment can be effective for a whole range of conditions, from pain relief through to depression.

Salisbury District Hospital will inform you of these sessions, which we strongly recommend that you attend. The Practice Nurses and occasionally one of the doctors will run the clinics, and they will be able to answer any questions you may have.

A counsellor service is available by booking only on a Tuesday afternoon up at Upavon.

                                 Diabetes Checkup

Diabetic patients are strongly recommended to attend these clinics for regular diabetic checks. We aim to provide a full or shared service and cooperate closely with our local Diabetic Specialist Team at Salisbury District Hospital.

                  Lifestyle Advice and Health Promotion

We promote a positive approach and encourage lifestyle changes in relation to diet, obesity, smoking and alcohol problems. Clinics are arranged on an "as required" basis and are staffed accordingly. Please identify your needs to the reception staff.

Travel Advice

We are pleased to offer advice on travelling abroad at our Upavon site.

In order to provide the best service we are able, we request that you contact us at least 6 weeks prior to your travel date and will ask you to complete our travel form.

The form can be printed off this site Travel Form or you can collect one from your preferred surgery. We strongly advise that you do not email completed forms to us for security of data reasons.

Once you have returned your completed forms one of our Practice Nurses will contact you to arrange a suitable appointment.

If you have less than six weeks before you travel please still contact us and we will give as much assistance as we can.

Additional Information:

• A dental check up before you travel, if you do not have routine check-ups, may prevent problems whilst you are away.
• Take out adequate insurance for your destination and activities.  A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to free or reduced rate medical care in most EU countries. You can apply for one free of charge on-line – www.dh/gov.uk , by phone (0845 606 2030) or by post using a form from the Post Office.
• Pack a first aid kit (a sterile kit of emergency equipment may be a good idea if you are going somewhere remote.
• Ask the Practice Nurse about which medicines it may be advisable to take – we can sell these to you for travel purposes.
